Reading to Apply a Diagram asks you to connect information in a visual resource with a message. A familiar word is not enough: the option must satisfy the writer's conditions. Try this original eight-question practice example, then open the answer explanations. It is free to read without an account and is separate from our scored mock tests.

How to approach Reading Part 2

  1. Read the message for its purpose. Identify who is making the decision and what they need before comparing every detail in the diagram.
  2. Turn the requirements into a checklist: day, time, capacity, price and any access needs. Cross out an option as soon as it fails a required condition.
  3. For an email blank, read the whole sentence with your choice inserted. Check both its meaning and its grammar against the diagram.
  4. Distinguish a stated rule from an assumption. A lower price does not prove that a room includes food, equipment or extra hours.

The following availability is for the coming weekend. Prices cover the entire time slot shown, including setup and cleanup. Bookings are confirmed only after payment. You may bring your own projector to any room; the centre does not supply one.

To receive a full refund, cancel at least 48 hours before your booking starts. Later cancellations are not refunded. Food may be brought only into rooms marked Yes. Capacity includes organizers as well as guests.

    B — Forty-eight hours before Saturday at 1 p.m. is Thursday at 1 p.m. Wednesday would also be early enough, but the question asks for the latest time. Friday is only 24 hours beforehand.

    2. The price increases for every extra person.
    3. They can stay an extra hour.
    4. The group still fits Cedar's capacity.

    D — Twenty people plus four equals Cedar's stated capacity of 24. The guide gives a price for the slot, not a per-person surcharge. It does not grant extra time or require a larger room when the group is within capacity.

Turn your mistakes into a reading strategy

Review any wrong answer by naming the condition it violates. If you chose Willow, you probably matched time and price but missed access. If you chose Wednesday for the cancellation question, your calculation may be safe in real life, but it does not answer 'latest.' Practise checking the exact question after finding the relevant row or policy.

Keep a short error log: your choice, the correct choice, the sentence or table cell that proves it, and the trap you missed. Then try a fresh question set to practise the same skill without relying on memory.
