TCF Canada to NCLC chart
IRCC maps each TCF Canada score range to an NCLC level per ability. Listening and Reading use the 699-point scale and have different cutoffs from each other. Speaking and Writing share the same cutoffs on the 20-point scale.

Scores are the minimum for each NCLC level per ability. A score between two rows keeps the lower level. NCLC 7 in all four French abilities unlocks the French bonus CRS points.

TCF Canada and NCLC questions
What TCF Canada score is NCLC 7?
NCLC 7 needs Listening 458, Reading 453, Writing 10 and Speaking 10 on TCF Canada. NCLC 7 in all four abilities is the level that unlocks the French bonus CRS points.
What TCF Canada score is NCLC 9?
NCLC 9 needs Listening 523, Reading 524, Writing 14 and Speaking 14. NCLC 10 starts at 549 in Listening and Reading and 16 out of 20 in Writing and Speaking.
Why are TCF Speaking and Writing scored out of 20?
TCF Canada reports Listening and Reading on a 0 to 699 scale and Speaking and Writing on a 0 to 20 scale. IRCC publishes a separate cutoff for each ability, so the calculator converts each one on its own scale.
Does IRCC accept TCF Tout Public?
No. For Express Entry and other economic programs, IRCC accepts TCF Canada, not TCF Tout Public or other TCF versions. Check the version on your booking before you sit the test.
How many extra CRS points does French give?
NCLC 7 or higher in all four French abilities adds 50 CRS points if your English is CLB 5 or higher in all four abilities, or 25 points if your English is CLB 4 or lower or you have no English test. If French is your first official language, your NCLC levels earn the regular language points instead.
Is TCF Canada or TEF Canada better?
Both are accepted and both convert to the same NCLC scale. They use different formats and scoring scales, so pick the one whose format suits you and check your practice scores against its chart.
